The Glastonbury Music Festival is known as one of the oldest and largest music festivals in the world. This festival started back in 1970 on a farm in Somerset, which continued to expand to different fields nearby, due to the growing number of attendees. Glastonbury is a perfect destination for music lovers visiting England during the summer months. The festival is usually held during the second or third weekend in June, lasting from Wednesday until Sunday.
The festival has grown and grown each year, making the tickets for the event almost impossible to get your hands on. But the prices aren’t what’s making purchasing tickets impossible; it’s how fast they sell out. With the popularity of the Glastonbury Festival, tickets usually sell out within just a few hours of going on sale. If you’re looking to attend the event, it’s important to make sure you do plenty of planning, including your trip to England as well as giving yourself ample time to get tickets before they’re sold out.
If you are one of the lucky 100,000 plus people who get the opportunity to attend this festival, you will certainly have a once in a lifetime experience. The culture at Glastonbury promises a broad array of age groups and music styles, with the chance to participate in the European festival world. A few of the musical acts over the years include David Bowie, The Smiths, Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, The Who, Coldplay, Johnny Cash, and Rage Against the Machine.
The Glastonbury Festival prides itself on partnering with charities for the event each year, raising money for those in need. Employees and volunteers from these charities will donate their time to work at the festival, and in turn, the money they receive goes directly to their organization. Oxfam, Greenpeace, and WaterAid are three of the charities represented at the festival. Glastonbury makes sure to promote environmental awareness in all they do. Their Love the Farm, Leave No Trace campaign continues to motivate and inspire positive environmental change and leaves the attendees of the festival in charge of creating environmental sustainability.
In 2008, I had the opportunity to attend the festival on my first trip abroad. Attending Glastonbury was not only my first time traveling abroad, but I also travelled solo which really fed my love of travel. One of the greatest things about my trip was getting to see Jay-Z headline the festival. Even better, I had the pleasure of seeing my favorite artist, Amy Winehouse, who I just adore.
If you’re someone who loves to travel and enjoys different genres of music, the Glastonbury Music Festival is an experience you won’t want to miss. Not only can you attend one of the largest music festivals in the world, but you also have the opportunity to visit England and the surrounding countries to make it an unforgettable trip to Europe.
